About Kate

In A Few Words

Currently based in Guelph, Ontario, Kate has been drawn to art for as long as she can remember. After completing high school, she continued her creative path as a self-taught artist. Kate's style has evolved through years of exploration, experimentation, and intuitive learning. For over 10 years she has worked primarily with acrylics, focusing on abstract painting as a way to explore colour, texture, and emotion. Kate decided to turn her lifelong hobby into a professional business in 2025.

The Process

Kate's process is deeply physical and intuitive. She relies heavily on palette knives and scrapers, allowing layers of paint and medium to build, break apart, and interact to create rich texture and movement. Rather than working from a fixed plan, Kate instinctively respond to the painting as it evolves, reaching for colours that speak to her in the moment.

The Inspiration

Inspiration often arises during periods of mental flow, such as when Kate is processing the day or quieting her thoughts. Colours tend to emerge first, forming vivid patterns in her mind that later find their way onto the canvas. She discovers colours that inspire her in everyday life - from the nature around her to a certain page within a children's book. Each piece is an expression of energy, emotion, and presence in that moment, inviting the viewer to experience their own interpretation within the layers.
